Fireworks Show Process – Booking to Execution
It’s a bit more complicated than just buying some fireworks, but here we pull back the curtain and provide a simplified step-by-step generalized explanation of the fireworks show production process.
Step 1:
The display company orders the fireworks from a manufacturer – This is done long before the show is booked.
Step 2:
The customer decides they want a fireworks display – They call the display company and discuss their options. These options include show size, show duration, exact show location, show cost, show logistics, and any special requests such as musical choreography.
Step 3:
Licensed pyrotechnic operator contracted and show scripted – A licensed pyrotechnic operator is contacted and agrees to set up and shoot the said display. A Show Producer who works for the display company will now compose a unique script that the show will follow.
Step 4:
The licensed operator meets with the customer and fire inspector at the display site – During this meeting, site safety, music coordination, and other fireworks show logistics are taken care of. If this is a recurring show, in-person meetings are not always necessary after the first show has been executed.
Step 5:
The licensed pyrotechnic operator and his crew set up the show – This can take a few hours to a few days. The operator will pick the show up (already packed in a truck) from the display company, and then drive it out to the display site. The operator’s crew will meet him/her at the display site at a pre-designated time for setup. The onsite setup will also involve an inspection by the local fire authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Step 6:
The display is executed – The display goes off and then the crew breaks down the setup and re-packs the equipment into the truck. The operator then has the responsibility of returning the truck (or his driver) and equipment to the display company along with finishing/submitting all required paperwork.
